Shutter Love Tuesday

This week’s theme for Shutter Love Tuesday over at The Trendy Treehouse is “Laughter.”

I thought I would share a picture of my nephew, Cooper, from last summer. My sister, her husband and Cooper came to visit and one day I took him to play in the water park on post. He had such a good time and every time the water came on and he got wet, he would come running out of the water as fast as he could back to me just laughing. He was so stinkin’ cute and I was laughing right a long with him!

Ode to Fall

With September only 2 days away, (where in the world has this year gone?), I thought I would join in on the sharing of Fall ideas. I thought I would share two items that I used last year to decorate our house.

The first is item is a fall wreath that I made. I just went to Michael’s and bought a grapevine wreath, some fall flowers, some fall leaves, and some fall berries. I was super happy with the way it turned out and it added just what I wanted to our front door. And it actually was rather cheap.

Next item, well more like items, is the set up I created in our front garden. I made the pumpkins 2 years ago. And they are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE FALL DECOR! They are plastic pumpkins that I bought at Michael’s and then I covered them in Martha Stewart Glitter. You can’t tell in this picture but when the sun hits them they shimmer like crazy! They are AWESOME! ๐Ÿ™‚ I then just paired them with some mums, some small hay bails, pine cones from my backyard, and some more fall leaves.
I will share how I made my pumpkins a little closer to the start of fall. And the best thing about these pumpkins is that you can reuse them and that they don’t rot! lol

So that was my Fall decor from last year. I did a few other things but I guess I didn’t take any pictures of the rest. I look forward to seeing how you all decorate for fall and to see all of your fall craft ideas. I have a couple things up my sleeve for this year so we’ll see if I produce them the way I have pictured in my head. ๐Ÿ™‚

Back to Your Regular Scheduled Programming…

I am finally finished with what I have been working on for the past two weeks that has pretty much made me MIA for that time as well. I am SO happy that I will be getting this stuff out of my house and giving it to the ladies that are going to use it.

I was working with my old sorority chapter to make name tags and display boards for them to use during recruitment. I have done something like this in the past but this go around wasn’t the best experience. I was up until 4 am finishing up these boards last night because I didn’t get ANY pictures until 730 yesterday and I am meeting with them today to drop them off. But it is all done and I am happy with how it all turned out. I didn’t have enough pictures so the girls will have to finish adding some but I am thrilled this is over and done with!

I had to make over 130 name tags. Some blank and some already with the sisters’ names.
Then, I also had to make 5 display boards for the ladies’ to use during recruitment.

So as my title states: back to regular scheduled programming. I am so happy to get back to some crafting and finally get to post and share again with all of you. I’ve had so many things that I have wanted to do but couldn’t since this stuff has been my life for 2-3 weeks.
So stay tuned and HAPPY CRAFTING! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been tagged…

I was tagged by Emily from Denson Duet. She had some questions for me to answer so now you’ll get to know a little more about me.

Here are Emilyโ€™s 8 questions for me: 1. What is your greatest achievement?
This is hard. I don’t have kids yet so I can’t use the fact that I am a mom. We are super close to being debt free but since we aren’t, I can’t use that. I am super happy with the fact that I graduated college without any debt and with a very good GPA. I guess a great achievement that I can be happy about is the fact that I am a military wife and even though it gets really tough at times I make it through and stronger then before. Surviving 2 deployments, one being 15 mths long, will prove that I can handle a lot.
2. What is your worst habit?
Let’s see. It used to be biting my nails but I have stopped doing that years ago. I am a total night owl (is that a bad habit?). I can be a worry wart and stress about stuff. Oh, maybe my worst habit is that when I go to bed, I can’t completely clear my head to relax so I think about ALL sorts of stuff that needs to be done and I then stay awake. Blah.
3. What did you want to be when you โ€œgrew upโ€?
A teacher. I did actually get my degree in teaching and have my license to teach in TN but have yet actually had my own classroom.
4. What is your favorite childhood memory?
Playing outside with my sister and all the other neighbor kids. We rode bikes, go-carts, swam, and probably did MANY things that we shouldn’t have done. lol
5. How did you decide on the name for your blog?
Not sure why I actually picked this name. I think I sat there staring and thinking for like 30 mins before I finally just wrote this and thought that it was good.
6. What is your favorite place to go out to eat?
Hmmmm… I don’t really know if I have an all time favorite place to eat.
7. What is the last book that you read?
Truth be told… I am SO NOT a reader! So bad I know! I just have no desire and I am rather picky. But some how I started reading the newest Nora Roberts series, The Bride Quartet, so the last book I read was the third in the series, Savor the Moment.
8. What is your favorite family tradition? (new or old)
Man, I really can’t think of something to write here. That’s pretty sad. I am sure we have family traditions but I really can’t think of anything.
Okay, your turn!! I think I am supposed to make up 8 new questions, but it’s late and my mind it not working so I am going to stick with Emilyโ€™s!

Party, Party

We headed down to TN Saturday for a “Welcome Home” party. The party was to celebrate that Travis and I, and a couple other friends were back in the area.

It was great to see old friends from college. It was like a reunion of some old fraternity parties actually since everyone there was a brother from Travis’ fraternity. So we all have MANY years together.

But it was great catching up, eating great food, playing a little corn hole (in between rain storms), and yes, doing a little drinking.

Here are some pictures from the night.

I hope that you all had a great weekend as well. I am STILL working on that large project but should be done with it this week! YEAH! So I will hopefully be back to normal around here next week with some new projects. ๐Ÿ™‚

*Date Night*

Last night, Travis and I had a date night. We headed up to Louisville to the KY State Fair and we had tickets to the Sugarland concert as well.

Luckily, the temperatures were still bearable so it wasn’t TOO hot walking around the fair and eating all that fair food.

I thought I would share some pictures from our night.

I wanted to take some pictures of us before we left. Thank goodness for timers on cameras!

I was in a goofy mood when we were driving so out came the camera again and here are some of our pics. As you can see… we are a goofy pair! lol

Little Big Town opened up for Sugarland.

And here are some pictures of Sugarland. The concert was awesome! We saw them one other time when they opened up for Keith Urban so I was so excited to see them as headliners and I was NOT disappointed!

We had a fabulous time!

We have a party to go to in TN this weekend so I’ll share about that next week. And hopefully, I will get to share something OTHER than Travis and I next week as well! I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! See you Monday!

Oh and btw…. If you just LOVE the necklace I have on it came from Mandy over at Mandy’s Yellow Corner. I actually was so lucky to win this necklace from her and I mentioned it in this post. So if you love it, check out Mandy’s blog or her etsy shop!

Thrifty Finds

I am so excited that I FINALLY have something thrifty to share! It isn’t much but it is something.

Travis and I headed up to Louisville this past Sunday to our favorite store Tickled Pink and these are the two things I headed home with. I actually bought stuff this time instead of him.

A blue candy bowl.
I have eyed this gorgeous piece of depression glass from the store for months now but I haven’t wanted to spend the money on it-$40. I found this candy bowl for only $4.99 so I decided to snatch it up. I don’t think it is depression glass but I love it all the same.

I then found these embroidery hoops hidden behind some things on the floor. I got six of them for $5. I have seen a couple fun things out in blogland using these so I can’t wait to see what I can come up with… when I finally have the time to make new projects!

I found these two adorable little chairs there as well that I debated on getting. They were only $10 and needed some love but I ended up leaving without them. I keep thinking about them but I just wasn’t sure what to do with them. I would use one in my craft room but we already have extra chairs around the house so I just walked away. Hope I don’t regret it! All well!

So there you have it. Not much but I was just happy that I finally found something to bring home during one of my thrifting outings!

I will be linking up to some of these fabulous parties!

Wordless Wednesday

Ok… so this isn’t exactly wordless but that’s alright.
Patton, our cat, is a total indoor boy. He’s been outside on some occasions but since we’ve moved he really hasn’t been out back. If he is out, he just lounges on our patio table not even interesting in getting down. Monday was a GORGEOUS day outside so I decided to take him out for a few. I placed him on his perched on the table and he suddenly got adventurous and jumped down to chase bugs and explore. Then he noticed the birds on the fence near the feeders. He literally did not move for like 5 mins just staring at the birds! I just had to try to get some pics.

Here he is just observing the bird on the fence.

Suddenly, he decided to get a little closer.

Then, he just took off to the other side of the yard. I snapped this JUST as the bird flew off which I was actually happy about because I am not really sure what Patton would have done.

He wasn’t too happy when I took him in after this event! He kept talking to me, I’m sure asking or maybe yelling at me, to go back out. lol

Happy Wednesday!

Tasty Tuesday: Lasagna

LasagnaI am sharing my recipe for lasagna for today’s Tasty Tuesday. This is one of my husband’s favorite meals that I make. I know there are many versions of lasagna out there but I wanted to share mine just in case you all have never had it this way before.
It is relatively easy and SUPER YUMMY!
-Lasagna noodles
-Spaghetti sauce of your choice
-Ground beef
-Small curd cottage cheese
-Mozzarella Cheese and Parmesan cheese

How to:Begin by browning the ground beef.

While the meat is browning, cook noodles as directed on the box.

In a small bowl, combine sauce, cottage cheese, and meat once browned.

Build it:

First, put a thin layer of the sauce combination at the bottom of a 9×13 pan. This will prevent your noodles from sticking.

Then, place noodles on sauce.

Place another layer of sauce over the noodles.

Cover the sauce with a layer of both cheeses. Then repeat process:
Noodles, sauce, cheese.
(I only do two layers of each. I use 6 noodles total.)

Top with rest of cheese. (We like a lot of cheese!)

Side view of noodles.

At this point you can either bake immediately or just cover with foil and place in the fridge.

Bake at 350 for 30 mins.
Let stand 5 mins before serving.

Proud Wife

I am a very proud wife. For the past two weeks, Travis has been in Air Assault school. During this time he had to complete an obstacle course, a 6 mile ruck match in 1 1/2 hrs., learn about every type of helicopter out there, rappel from a helicopter and off buildings, take multiple tests, and then in order to pass, complete a 12 mile ruck march in 3 hrs… all while surviving in this KY heat and humidity!

Well, he did it! He was very nervous about completing the 12 miler in time but he did and now he is a graduate and Air Assault qualified. Saturday was his graduation and I wanted to share some photos from the day.

I wanted to make a cake from scratch, so this gave me the perfect opportunity. I play around on occasion with cake decorating as well, so I decided to copy the Air Assault Badge for the top of the cake. I was nervous about messing it up but I think it turned out rather well! ๐Ÿ™‚
(This also means that I FINALLY used my stand mixer! YEAH!)

Up close shot of the cake.

Travis was a platoon leader during his time in school. He is the one in the center in the very back.

Getting his Air Assault pin.

New Air Assault Grad with his new pin.

So proud of him! I knew he could do it!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well!
