Thanksgiving Festivities

I hope that you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving.
Both of our families were here so it was busy, busy, busy!

But we did have a great time.
Here are some pictures of our Thanksgiving Festivities.

Table decorations.
It didn’t turn out how I wanted but I pretty much just threw it together as everyone was showing up so this is how it ended up! haha

Travis got me the flowers last weekend so they worked out well in the center of the table.
The turkey worked well now. I bought some small real pumpkins and scattered them. I bought fake acorns and scattered them and everyone thought they were real. Had my candles and then also glittered some more small pumpkins.

One of my new glittered pumpkins. I let everyone pick their favorite and take it home with them.

Travis pulling our giant turkey out of the oven.

Host and hostess.

My sister captured me setting the table.

Here is a picture of the place setting. I had my mom bring her silver chargers and then I used the china that used to be my grandmother’s. The napkins were made by my friend’s mom for my bridal shower so I brought those out as well.

Bunch of random pictures to show what everyone was doing while the food was cooking.
All the men in the living room watching football… surprise, surprise!
Cooper trying to occupy himself.
And the ladies in the kitchen by the stove.

For some reason, our stairs became a big hit as a slide during the weekend. We were all going down on our butts or even head first. Travis decided that he needed to get a box and go down faster so here he goes. He looks a little scared doesn’t he?! lol

Here is Cooper crawling down the steps head first. Guess me and his dad shouldn’t have taught him this! haha

We had our first snow on Thanksgiving night. It was really pretty when we woke up and the dogs loved to play in it!

If we went out shopping on Black Friday it was pretty early so we decided we would head to post and do a little bowling. It was a lot of fun!

With my favorite little man.

Waiting for our turn.

Travis’ parents, Ray and Sue

Cooper LOVES to bowl. And he is really good at it.
He is super fast though. He drops that ball, turns around running back with his tongue sticking out of his mouth every time, stand at attention as we watching his ball and then stands at the ball return staring into it waiting for his ball to come back so he can do it all over again.

My whole family left on Saturday but Travis’ family stayed an extra day. We all headed to the movies Saturday and then Sunday morning headed up to Louisville to our favorite store Tickled Pink before they headed home. We got some stuff there so I will share what we got with you guys later.

I was planning on getting all my Christmas decorations up yesterday but that didn’t happen! At all! I only cleaned the house a little and got all my fall stuff put away. My house is full of the boxes with my decorations in it so that is my mission today! Have to get started on it, especially since my Holiday Open House party starts Wednesday, which I hope you will join me for!!

So I hope you guys had a fun filled Thanksgiving with all your loved ones!
I also hope that you got more Christmas decorating done then I did!

Holiday Open House Party starts Wednesday! Open your house and show us your decorations!
Catch a Glimpse party will be back on Thursday as well so hope you have some fun stuff to link up! 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I hope that you all are having a great Turkey Day!
We are celebrating with both of our families at our house.

So again, I hope you all are having a great day enjoying time with your family and friends, filling up on yummy food, and being thankful for all you have!

Table Runner with Tutorial

As I mentioned on Monday, I wanted to make a table runner, well runners, for my table for Thanksgiving. After a little bit of trouble, I got them finished Monday evening.

I am so happy with how they came out!
It was pretty easy as well.

Here’s the how to:

I bought burlap and this fall leaf fabric tablecloth. I bought the largest sized tablecloth I could find and it was on clearance for $9 at Wal-Mart. As soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to use it for my table some how.

I cut my burlap to the width and length that I wanted my runner to be.

I then laid out my tablecloth and cut 3″ strips to make my ruffles.

Time to get out the sewing machine.
Change the settings on your sewing machine to a very long stitch and very little to no tension.
Then just sew a straight line down the center of your strip.

It should look like this once complete.

How to make the ruffles:
Gently pull the bottom (back) thread or the bobbin thread. As you pull, the fabric should ruffle.
I gently pulled and then moved the ruffles down the fabric and then pulled more. I found it easier to do this and ruffle a little at a time otherwise your thread may break (which mine did on my first strip).

Move the fabric and ruffles to how you want them.

Once I had all my ruffles how I wanted them it was time to sew them onto my burlap.
I pinned my ruffles 2″ in from each side of the burlap.

I also trimmed all the threads that were loose on the edges of the leaf fabric. But I didn’t mind if some were there for the added texture.

Sew down the ruffles. Try to sew along the same line you stitched to make the ruffles.
Don’t look to close to mine… some places it looks pretty messy! haha It’s hard to stay on that line!

But as you sew, I found it best to flatten the ruffle a little before it went under the foot.

Once the ruffles were sewn on, I pulled the edges of the burlap to fringe it. I just pulled one thread at a time until I was happy with the amount of fringe.

I love them!
(Please don’t mind the super wrinkled tablecloth! It is new and I just threw it on the table for pictures but it will get ironed…promise!)

I have to have a second table set up for Thanksgiving. It didn’t need to be big so I just pulled out one of my old card tables. It is really short compared to our dining room table but I still wanted them to look seamless so I bought the same tablecloth as the dining table and made a small runner for this table as well.

I love the fringe on the burlap for added texture.

I made it really wide because I wanted to be able to decorate and place our food on the table without having much stuff directly onto the ruffles.

View from one end down to the other table. I tried to line them up directly so they flow into each other and look like one piece.

But wasn’t that easy?! I was so nervous and I had no reason to be.
You can make these with any type of fabric of your choosing.
Hope you try one for yourself!

I can’t wait to decorate the table now. I have big plans in my head and have bought and made a couple more things for the table so we’ll see how it all comes together.

I will be sure to take pictures of it when I have it completely set up to share with all of you.

Also, I just wanted to remind you all that there will not be a Catch a Glimpse Party tomorrow since it is Thanksgiving. It will resume next Thursday, December 2nd.

And, hope you will join me for my Holiday Open House starting Wednesday, December 1st, sharing your Kitchen and Dining room holiday decor.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Linking up to some of these parties.

I’m bummed!

I don’t really have anything to blog about today.
And I have a reason why.

I have big plans in my head to make my table at Thanksgiving grander this year. I wanted to go all out. So I decided to make a table runner.

I go out and bought burlap and some fall fabric.
I’m excited but nervous all at the same time because this is the first time I am using burlap AND attempting ruffles.

I procrastinated all day Saturday doing this project because I was so nervous.
I only cut the burlap to length.

Sunday night rolls around and I get up the courage to go for it.
What can REALLY go wrong?!

I get everything cut and am ready to sew.
I start by making my ruffles… so far so good. That wasn’t too hard.

Time to sew them onto the burlap.
And then here is what stopped me!

As I’m sewing on the ruffle, I’m nervous again because I hope it comes out right. Then I am getting excited because it is actually working. So I start thinking in my head how I can’t wait to finish this runner (have to make 2) and run downstairs all proud waving it high in the air to show Travis.

I finish the first ruffle and BAM… I notice it!
My bobbin thread ran out about 5 inches from the end.
Of course it did!! Things were going too smoothly.

I now have to wind up more thread on the bobbin because, of course, I didn’t have this color on another one.
But wait… it’s been SO long since my last sewing project, I can’t remember how to do it!
I attempt it the way I think it works and it is SO not working!
Few choice words flying through the air, I decide I need to find the manual but where in the world is that?!

Find it, think “Oh yeah… that was SO easy!”
And get to winding.

Then BAM… I completely ran out of thread all together!!

I’m so upset!!! And more choice words are flying!!
Of course, it is 1030 at night so there is no place open that would have thread or there is no way I am running to Wal-Mart to go get any. So there stopped my project.

Why didn’t I start this on Saturday because I could have then bought more thread on Sunday?!
All well.

Hopefully, I will get this finished tonight and will have it up to post about on Wednesday to show you all and have a tutorial on how to make your own runner. Hopefully!!

But on another note…
I just want to ask all of you to say a little prayer for one of my Delta Gamma sorority sisters.
Her name is Angeline and she went into the emergency room with a bad headache and while she was there she found out she has Leukemia. She also had a stroke yesterday and last I heard she couldn’t move the right side of her body. She is still in college but because of this she won’t be able to go back until next Fall.

So please pray that she recovers quickly and that she stays strong through it all.

Catch a Glimpse Party #4

Time to share your fabulous creative items, yummy recipes, thrifty finds, or home decor!

I want to show you all my fall subway art. I FINALLY finished it! Even though it will only be hanging on the wall for about a week and a half, I still wanted to have one.

I made this the exact same way I made my Halloween subway art just left out the pictures this time.

Before the party begins, I want to announce that there will NOT be a party next Thursday since it is Thanksgiving. But the party will be back up and running on the 2nd.
And don’t forget about my Holiday Open House party starting on the 1st with your kitchen and dining room decor as the focus!!

But let’s party!
Can’t wait to see what you have to share this week!
