Ucreate- January Create with Me

Kari from Ucreate, has a “Create with Me” challenge each month.
She showcases a projects and everyone can make it along with her and send her a picture of the finished product.

I decided that I would participate for the month of January after I saw what is was- a simple rosette frame.

I had the frames and some of the fabric already but I bought some more fun fabric and finally got to work on it.

Here is what I came up with.

I just painted my frames white because I wanted the flowers to pop.

I made one with rosettes with orange, white, green and pink fabric.

The second frame I decided to make some pom-pom flowers instead with this fun multi-color fabric. I love it!!

What do you think?

I am so happy that I decided to participate in the January Create with Me.
Hopefully, I will be able to do it more often.

These frames were so simple and I plan to make more of them.
These two will end up in my Etsy shop real soon.

I hope you will check out Ucreate. That blog is awesome!
And join in with me, Kari, and everyone else for the Create with Me challenge each month.

My Valentine Shutters + a Tutorial

I love to change my shutters up with the seasons or holidays and with Valentine’s Day coming up, I was excited to think of what I was going to do.

This is how they turned out.I love it!
And I redecorated it for FREE! 🙂

Here’s a tutorial on how I made the heart in the center.
I started by cutting out a heart on my Cricut.
I did “fit to page” to get the largest heart possible.

I then traced the heart onto some thin cardboard I had lying around.
I have NO idea where I got this cardboard but I’m glad that I am a pack rat and for some reason knew I should keep it! 🙂 Have another piece left too.

Traced heart.

Then, I just cut out the heart.

I painted it a light pink base coat.

I wanted to add some different layers, so in a darker shade of pink, I painted in a smaller heart.

I then painted little X’s to look like stitches in a peachy-orange.

In a dark pink, I painted the word love but I wasn’t too fond of it so I was going to glitter over it but decided to do something different.

I pulled out some little beads I use for scrapbooking that just so happen to be all the colors I was using and just glued them down over the word.

I then wanted to add some ruffles to the edges to make it a little larger and also for added texture. So I took out some streamers that I had in hot pink and just put a bead of hot glue down.

I laid down the streamers on the glue overlapping as I was placing it down to create the ruffles.

I then just glued down the extra streamers to lay flat.

Almost done!

I glued down a band of white yarn on the edges to clean up the edge a little.
Then just glued some ribbon to the back to hang it.

I wasn’t too fond of it at first, didn’t turn out like I pictured in my head, but it has slowly grown on me. I still don’t LOVE it but it will do.

Here’s a closer look at the other shutter decor.
I just cut some paper to fit my frames and cut out X’s and O’s on my cricut and glued them down. Easy, easy!

I then wanted to add a garland. Debated over a few ideas and then decided it would look so cool to make crepe paper rosettes as a garland. So I made my rosettes just like I did for my wreath and then just strung them on clear thread so they look like they are suspended.

Tied them onto my shutters and I LOVE THEM!

You can’t tell, but I also sprayed them with some spray glitter for a little shimmer. It is very subtle but I love it!

There you have it!
How do you like my Valentine shutters?!

Mirrors and Candlesticks… Oh my!

That title seems kinda… well take it as you will. lol

I told you all in my Tickled Pink post that I would share what I bought there later and today’s later.

I got these adorable little green glass candlesticks. I love the color of them.
They were $1.50 I believe maybe less.

I also bought these taller blue glass candlesticks.
I think these were $1.99.
I can’t remember.

Then I bought this blue glass bowl.
This was $2.

I got this mirror with plans to use it in my frame collage in our bedroom.
This was $2 as well.

And this is the last thing I purchased that day and I believe my favorite.
I randomly picked it up and wasn’t sure about it at first. I didn’t take a picture of the back but it is faded crushed velvet and looks rather old. We both got pretty excited about it then and I know it will look fabulous in a new color. It may end up in our bedroom or some other place in the house. I haven’t decided.
It was $4.

I planned to make cake stands and candy bowls with the candlesticks and Travis put them all together for me this weekend while I was baking. So I will take a picture of what they look like now and share that soon.

Have you been thrifting recently and found anything cool?!

Tasty Tuesday- Cupcake Poppers

I saw these first on Crazy Domestic. As soon as I saw them I knew I HAD to make them.

I looked through my cabinet and I had everything I needed so I finally made these this past weekend.
And all I can say is YUM!!! 🙂

They do take some time but they are fabulous!

Cupcake Poppers

Ingredients:
-1 box Betty Crocker Super Moist White Cake (or your favorite brand/recipe)
(I thought I had a plain Vanilla cake mix but it was Funfetti so that is what I used and it worked just fine.)
-Food coloring, liquid or gel
-Vanilla Frosting
-Mini cupcake pan

Mix the batter as directed on the box.

Then separate into 4 different bowls, about 1- 1 1/4 cups batter in each.
Add 5-6 drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix well.

Spoon batter into mini cupcake tins and bake @ 350° for 8-10 minutes or until they pass the toothpick test.

While the cupcakes are baking, separate frosting into 4 small bowls, and add 5-6 drops of food coloring to each and mix well.

Once the cupcakes are cool, cut off tops with a serrated knife.
You can eat those bottoms if you just HAVE to try the cake for a taste test. (HIGHLY suggested.)

Spread some color coordinated frosting onto the underside of one of the tops and then sandwich another top of the same color on top.

I then placed them into mini cupcake liners to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of my pan and so you can pick them up easily.

ENJOY!!

My Fur Babies

Lucy, Debbie’s dog from Debbiedoos, invited all the pets out in blogland over for a party.
So I thought Oscar and Patton should join in and have some fun.

We don’t have any kids yet but we have two, VERY SPOILED, fur babies.
I’ve mentioned them on here a few times but here’s a closer look at our wild boys.

Oscar
Soon-to-be 4 yr old Wire Hair Fox Terrier

He is our fluffy bundle of energy!
We were living in VA and decided we wanted a dog. Looked at the SPCA and in the paper and then found a breeder selling these puppies in N.C. There were 4 of them left and they were already 4 mths old so they were selling the puppies for half price.
We drove down on July 3rd and fell in love!
His original name was Guns, the breeder was a big Guns n Roses fan, (yes there was a sister named Roses but she was already sold), but on the ride home we decided to name him Oscar.
Not sure why… Guns works now b/c this dog is SOLID muscle!

Travis deployed a month after we got Oscar. But that didn’t put a damper on their relationship. He is totally a daddy’s boy! TOTALLY!
He gets all sad when Travis travels. As soon as he hears or sees him come home, he is jumping at the door with his favorite toy ready to play. He loves to lay in his daddy’s lap too.

He sleeps in the most random places. Places a dog shouldn’t lay but there is no stopping him. His favorite spot during the day is on top of the back of our loveseat. In our old house, it was the back of one of two chairs.

He can play, and play, and play some more. Oscar LOVES to play! He has come close to completely passing out before but he doesn’t care. He just wants to play!

And his tennis ball is his DRUG! Even snow covered, this is his most favorite thing, next to dad of course, and will drop anything if he hears the word Ball out of your mouth.

He’s my wild child.
Gotten into a lot of trouble and I am pretty sure has prepared us for having a real kid! lol
But he is just so darn cute! 🙂

Patton
Our two year old Gray and White tabby kitty

Patton joined our family in Nov. of 2008. Travis returned from Iraq and I told him that I needed a cat (I’m a cat person) and he agreed. So off to the SPCA we went and there he was, big ears and all!
His name was originally Hector. How awful for this poor kitty and we knew we would change it immediately! We played with him for a few minutes and I was in LOVE. Papers signed and off we went.

We decided on the name Patton on the car ride home. He reminded Travis of a desert fox with his big ears and that reminded him of General Patton so then we had a name. (Gotta love being married to an Army guy. lol)

He is definitely a momma’s boy! We have conversations in the morning. He follows me around the house and loves to lay in my lap.

He is my snuggle buddy. This happens in our house ALL THE TIME! There are numerous times a day that this picture is reenacted. Computer in lap since I’m working or blogging or anything else really and Patton either snuggled on my chest or in the crook of my arm.

Patton has the BEST personality! We joke that we couldn’t have picked a better cat and he fits in so well. He’s sneaky, frisky, lovable, and SO FRIENDLY. He’ll greet people at the door when they come over and wrestles with Oscar like a dog.

He’s definitely grown into those big ears! He has the SOFTEST fur! I’ve never felt a cat so soft. Even people that come visit say the same thing.
He had some health issues in the beginning and some of them still haunt him but he’s my baby and he knows it!!

I love my boys! They get along SO well! We are so amazed! They love to chase each other and wrestle and snuggle together as well.

We couldn’t have asked for better animals to make our little family.

New Etsy Items

I don’t talk about it often, but yes, I have an Etsy Shop, Creative Details.

I have slacked on it WAY too much so I’ve been trying to make new things for my shop recently.
I’d thought I’d share my most recent listings with more to come.

I hope that you all had a fabulous weekend.
I dragged Travis up to Hobby Lobby for some shopping!
I haven’t been there in quite some time and well… it was wonderful but probably spent too much.
But I got stuff for some projects so stay tuned for some of those! 🙂

Have a great week everyone!!
