Framed String Display

This was suppose to go up first thing this morning but well, with everything else going on in my life, things got crazy and that just didn’t happen.
I am in full blown packing mode right now. House is a total disaster! Stuff is everywhere, boxes and packing paper is every where, children and their toys are everywhere and my body is starting to rebel but I have to power through since time is ticking until our move!
I did manage to take a few minutes out of a few days to finish this project though and that was super nice to do since all my craft supplies are about to be packed away and I have no idea how quickly they will get unpacked after we get to our new house.
I LOVE Cut It Out and their frames are scattered all through our house.
I was super excited when I was able to pick something of theirs to do a project with and decided to go big with their 16×20 Balboa Double Layer Frame.
Since we knew we wanted some sort of playroom in our new WI house, I wanted to make something fun for that room and here is what I created.
This is super simple to make and you can make it with any sort of frame.
Here is how I made it.
The frame came from Cut It Out unpainted and the two pieces are still separated for easy painting or decorating.

I began by painting the bottom layer white.
Then the top layer of the frame yellow.
I wanted to add some sort of pattern to the frame so I pulled out some stencils and got to work.
I used a lighter shade of yellow for the stencil but you could always do a completely different color depending on the colors in the room you will be placing your frame in.
I scattered the stencils here and there and did some complete stencils then hung some off the edge of the frame as well.
Once the stencil was dry, I used some gorilla glue to glue the two frame layers together. I put the glue on the back of the yellow layer then placed the white layer on top of it.
I added some heavy items on top to press them together until the glued dried.
I took some twine and cut them to the length of the frame opening and just hot glued them to the back of the frame. When our little hand stapler isn’t in a box some where, I plan on adding a staple or two over the strings as well for a little extra hold.
I placed three stings on the back spaced evenly for a few rows to display things.
And that’s it!!
Time to pick whatever you want to display and just use small clothes pins to pin them to the strings.
I placed a fun print that I got from Pen and Paint, some pictures and then a little drawing Miss P created on the strings.
You can display all pictures, put more of your kid’s artwork, put it in your kitchen and display old family recipes…. whatever tickles your fancy!!
I can’t wait to get this up in our new house and see what fun things grace it’s strings!

Each week we will introduce you to one of our hostesses and give you a chance to get to know everyone better! We will share a bit about our blogs, our passions, and exciting recent posts and projects we have been working on.

Hi everyone!

 photo New Signature.png
I’m Valerie, and I blog at Occasionally Crafty, where I love to make simple, beautiful projects anyone can do!  You’ll find Craft and DIY Tutorials, Printables, simple Recipes, thoughts on Parenting, and my favorite, Seasonal and Holiday Decor.
I’m a wife, mother to three school-aged kids, avid reader, occasional crafter, and lover of all things music.  I graduated from BYU, taught high school band, then left to stay home with my kids.
Blogging gave me a much-need creative outlet when my kids were small.  Now, when I’m not blogging, I’m teaching piano lessons, shuffling my kids off to school and activities, volunteering at my church, and reading anything I can get my hands on.
Some of my favorite projects are my recent Kid’s Bathroom Makeover

Cherry Chip Sugar Cookies

Mother’s Day Brunch Table Scape

“This post was sponsored by Balsam Hill. All opinions and ideas are 100% my own.”
Mother’s Day is this Sunday.
I am normally far away from my mother to celebrate with her but if you lucky enough to live near your mom, I have a brunch table scape for you that is super easy to whip together in no time and is pretty.
I snagged some pieces from Balsam Hill to create this table scape.
Here is a closer look at the table.

I created a table runner with some place mats in the center of the table then layered some candle sticks, flame less candles, and some flowers before placing the food around the table.
These tall silver leaf candle holders add lots of height to the table and I love their rustic look.
I then used two ivory flame less pillar candles that flicker just like a real candle on the table near the flowers and food so there are no worries about the flames catching the flowers on fire or getting burned while passing food around the table.
Between the tall candle sticks, I placed a cake plate with this Phalaenopsis Snowball Arrangement on top of it. These faux floral arrangements are handmade and come in some fabulous containers. I then surrounded the arrangement with white carnations.
Here is an up close on the container of the arrangement that I used. I love the silver plated container with it’s engraved design on both sides.

With the flowers elevated, you can easily place more food around the table without impeding the design.
I simply used white plates and napkins to round out the table. Small glasses of water for everyone but you could always serve some sort of juice or even make some mimosas. It is brunch after all. 😉

Table scapes don’t have to be super elaborate to be pretty!
Plus, it is all about who you are sitting down to brunch with that really matters!
Hope you all have a happy Mother’s Day or have a great day celebrating your moms!

Handmade Hangout Party #46

EEK!!! Sorry to be getting the party up so late today!! I totally meant to get this all scheduled and I was busy getting my house ready for company and it totally slipped my mind until right now! OOPS!

Each week we will introduce you to one of our hostesses and give you a chance to get to know everyone better! We will share a bit about our blogs, our passions, and exciting recent posts and projects we have been working on.

Hey everyone! I am Christina and I blog over at Christina’s Adventures.  I share all about my adventures in DIY, home decor, and making my house a home on a tight budget.

I am a busy mom with a 21 month old boy who doesn’t like to sit down, and I’m 4 weeks away from giving birth to our second little baby!  As if that wasn’t enough, we are working on fixing up a 1902 Victorian house into our “forever home”.  You can see all of the progress on my blog and on my Instagram (follow along using #FixingUp1902 to see how far we’ve come!)

While I’m not rehabbing this house, I’m busy trying to eat healthy and cook well for my family:

And I just love using my little budget to make fun areas in our home, like this DIY art center I made for my little guy:
Child's Art Station
I love being a part of The Handmade Hangout – I hope you stop by my blog and follow along with all of my crazy adventures!
