House Tour: Miss S’s Room

I’m back today with another house tour post, this time sharing with you Miss S’s new room.
Her room is rather small. The previous owners used it as a guest room/office.
It is to the left of the stairs as soon as you walk up the back stairs of the house.
Here is her room before. Wood floors, light beige walls, and some crazy curtains with an ivy accent.
We immediately painted her room as well as soon as we closed on the house to try to get her room set up quickly.
We painted her room a light purple. Looks kinda pink in this picture but it is a light purple and actually matches the light purple in her existing curtains really well which was a nice surprise since we just picked the color on a whim. Miss P thought purple would be a good color for Miss S’s room and we agreed since there was so much purple already in her room decorations.

We were able to reuse the curtains from our old house and tucked her little chair with books and toy basket under the windows.
We placed her dresser on the wall right as you walk in by the door. I then placed her wreath, large frame and small owl above her dresser.
Her room doesn’t have a closet and the previous owners had that large shelving unit in the room and we bought it from them and adapted it so we could use it as a wardrobe for her clothing and then I placed totes on the very bottom for blankets and sheets. I am still debating on painting this piece and placing fabric behind the glass to hide all her clothes but that is way down on my priority list at this point.
I tucked her night stand over in the corner with her lamp and a picture frame on it and then placed a few things on top of the wardrobe itself.
Her crib is on the main wall of the room.
I placed her wood monogram back above her crib and then placed all the frames that were over her dresser at our old house all around her monogram. (Ignore the sideways photo. I need to update all the photos in her frames.)
You can’t see it in any of the pictures but on the floor in front of the crib, ok really centered in her room, we bought the same white rug that is is Miss P’s room to add a little softness to the hard floor.
And that’s it! Super fast room tour since her room is so tiny! lol
Stay tuned for more home tours as rooms get completed!

Painted Burlap Candy Corn Hanging

Hi everyone!
I shared this over at See Vanessa Craft at the beginning of the month in Vanessa’s 30 Crafty Days of Halloween but of course I had to share it here with all of you, well I still hope there are some of you out there since I’ve been so quiet on the blog this whole year.

This is a super quick and easy project perfect for Halloween!

This project is a no sew and it so fast. Just need to let the paint dry but if you have a blow dryer handy, you can get this project done in about 30 mins or less.
Here’s how to make it.
Supplies:
-Burlap, 2 pieces cut into the shape of a candy corn
-Acrylic paint
-Ribbon
-Glue Gun
-Paint brushes or stencil brushes
-Batting

Begin by cutting your burlap into the shape of a candy corn.
Take one piece of burlap and start at the top with the white paint and paint the tip of the candy corn white. I used a foam stencil brush to paint and pounced the paint on. Some times if you try to brush the paint on burlap, it pulls at the fibers and creates strings.
Continue painting the rest of the burlap in the candy corn colors.
I left a small border around the the edge of the candy corn instead of painting the whole thing.
Next I used black paint to outline the candy corn to give it a little more definition.
I then chose to write trick or treat on the candy corn with paint but this is totally optional.
You can leave it plain or add something different if you’d like.
Once your paint is dry, it is time to glue your two pieces of burlap together. Glue around the entire outside edge leaving a small hole so you can add some batting to stuff it (same process as sewing a pillow).
Also, while you glue, glue a ribbon between the two pieces of burlap so you can hang your candy corn.
Next, grab some batting and stuff your candy corn.
Once you’ve stuffed your candy corn to your liking, just glue the hole closed.
And it is done!
Find a fun place to hang it, on an old shutter, on your door, where ever!
Fun little easy decoration and great way to greet those little ghosts and goblins on Halloween night!

House Tour: Miss P’s Room

We’ve been in our house since mid June and things are slowly but surely coming together. This is the longest it has ever taken me to unpack after a move but with immediately working on projects, things have gone slower this go around.
I did complete each of the girl’s rooms as quickly as possible to try to make things as normal for them as possible again. This is their first move, with many more to go, and I know they really didn’t understand what was happening so I wanted to get their rooms done quickly.
Today, I thought I would share Miss P’s room with you.

Here is what her room looked like before. This was right after we closed on the house hence the air mattress on the floor. The previous owners used it as a guest room and had the walls painted yellow. Definitely needed a freshening up!

Miss P is to the age where she has an opinion now so she decided what color her room would be and she even picked out her own bedding and she even help me place some things around her room.
She’s a little girl. Her favorite color is pink so of course she picked pink for her new wall color.
We painted her room the day after we closed on our house before all our furniture was here and she was thrilled.
We converted her bed into her full size bed so we had to get all new bedding for her bed.
Took her to Target and let her pick out whatever she wanted and she picked the Circo Travel Comforter set which I was excited about because I saw it online and totally wanted that one for her room. It is really cute with different Parisian scenes on it.
I reused the decorations from her old room just had to buy a couple floating shelves to place them on.
At the foot of her bed, I placed her small chair with her tote of books and then the doll crib my dad made her sits in front of her windows.
Next to her window I placed the shelf that used to be in her room and a lot of the decorations that were in there are still on her shelf.
I again bought some square shelves from Target to hang on the wall above to place some of the more fragile items that I didn’t want her to try to play with. Not having the picture ledge in her room this time threw me and I had to figure out what to do with all these small items but I like the way it all turned out.
Her dresser is on the wall right when you walk in the door and since she is now potty trained, no need to put the changing table back on top of it. I still have a tote on top for pull ups that she wears at night still but other than that, it was nice to put her lamp on it and use it as a normal dresser.
I used the frames from her old room and created a gallery wall above her dresser along with the bunting I had in her old room above her dresser.
We just bought a white fluffy rug for the floor and I had to buy some new curtains for her room since her window is much bigger than her old one and I love the ones I found from Pottery Barn Kids. The aqua embroidery matches the color in her comforter perfectly!
I really like how her room came out and of course she loves it and that is all that matters!
There may be a thing or two I will add or change but right now, it is perfect for her!

Quick End Table Makeover

I gave one our end tables a super quick little makeover last week. Nothing too crazy but since I haven’t shared much lately, I thought I would share this with all of you.
I searched every where for a good before picture. I am sure I have a better picture some where but of course when I go to search for it, it is no where to be found. All well! So I had it in the background of a picture and cropped it so you could see it better.
Travis picked up this table when we lived in CO at a small consignment store about 5 minutes from our house.
It was originally brown wood and he took the top off and replaced it with some old painted wood that was an old fence and then we painted it white. We painted the knobs and the little covers on the feet a turquoise.
We weren’t suppose to keep this table. He redid it to just resell it and then it got put in our house and kinda stayed. lol
So after moving and placing it in our new house in the living room, the white was way to bright with the other furniture we had so it needed a quick face lift.
I got some American Decor Chalk Paint from Decor Art in gray and repainted the table.

The top of the table was pretty rough, Travis never sanded it, and some of the paint was flaking off so I gave it a good sanding. I didn’t want one of the girls to get a splinter from it since it was now in our main living room and would be use more.
I then actually took some brown stain and stained the wood then freaked! It was too dark with the gray and it made the white way too cream so I eventually took some white acrylic paint and dry brushed it on the top. So much better this way and goes with the cool gray so much better!
I repainted the knobs white and then took some silver to show off the little accents around the center. I gave the whole thing a coat with pearlescent white paint.
I also painted the little covers on the feet white and painted them with the pearlescent paint.
It lives on the left side of our sofa and you see it as soon as you walk into our house. It fits in so much better now with the new rug we bought and with our other tables in the room.
Here is a quick shot of the table and our new rug.
I will share the room as a whole once our construction downstairs is complete in a few days.
