I have been wanting to create something with t-shirt vinyl for some time now and just wasn’t quite sure what.
Isn’t it super cute?! I sure do love it!
Travis actually thought I bought the shirts instead of making them. I love that compliment!!!
Here is how I created them.
Supplies:
-T-shirt or onesie
-Heat Transfer Vinyl (I used Stripflock Vinyl and Easyweed Vinyl from Expressions Vinyl)
–Cutting Machine- I used my Silhouette Machine
-Iron
-Ironing Board or hard surface
I started by cutting out the bunnies.
I was making a shirt for both girls, so I cut two bunnies out of each color of vinyl.
Make sure you cut your image in REVERSE so when you iron it on your shirt, it will be the proper way. This is especially important for letters!
NOTE: When cutting on the heat transfer vinyl, there is a shiny side that is a protective layer over the vinyl and then the back of the vinyl. You will want to place the protective layer side face down onto your cutting mat with the back of the vinyl on top.
Here are all the bunnies cut out. I cut these out on the Stripflock Vinyl because it has a suede like texture to it.
I cut them completely out of the vinyl so I could place them where I wanted on the shirt but LEAVE the protective layer on the bunnies!
Here is a shot of when I was cutting out the phrase.
Here you can see that I flipped the image.
I typed it normally and then just flipped it once complete. Just right click the image and there is an option to flip the image.
I had to cut the phrase twice and one slightly smaller since Miss S’ shirt is smaller than Miss P’s shirt.
Once I cut out the phrase, I cut the extra vinyl away from them and then separated them. I cut this out using the Easyweed Vinyl.
Now peel the extra vinyl away from the protective layer. The protective layer will act just like transfer tape.
I also cut out blades of grass using the Stripflock Vinyl and peeled away the extra vinyl like the phrase above.
Time to apply it onto the shirts.
I began by ironing the shirts to make sure they were free of wrinkles.
Next, I did a dry fit on the shirt to make sure I liked the placement and that everything was straight.
I started with the blue bunny and made sure it was straight and ironed it down.
I held the iron on the bunny for about 10-15 secs. and then checked to make sure it was all ironed down.
If it is not ironed down, then just run your iron back over those areas.
Once I had the blue bunny placed, I moved to the left of it and placed the pink bunny.
After making sure it was straight, I ironed it down.
I then moved to the right of the blue bunny and ironed the purple bunny, then the yellow bunny.
Once all the bunnies are ironed down, let them cool completely. This is key! If you try to peel the protective layer off too soon, you will mess up the vinyl!
Once cooled, remove protective layer.
Here is an up close shot of the bunnies so you can see the texture of the vinyl.
It is now time to add the grass.
I played with the placement of the grass until I liked how it overlapped the bunnies then ironed it down.
It ironed so nicely over the bunnies and blends right in.
I then ironed on the “Hanging with my Peeps” phrase below the grass and it is complete!
Here is a shot of both the shirts.
I only placed 3 bunnies on Miss S’ shirt since hers is smaller.
Aren’t they adorable?!
I had Miss P try her shirt on and I must say, it is super cute!
And I think Miss P thinks her shirt is super cute as well!
Can’t wait for both girls to wear them closer to Easter!

March 4, 2014 at 6:36 pmWhat a cute idea. Why haven't I ever thought of trying to make my own cute shirts like this? I like the flocked vinyl, but I'm pretty sure the glitter one would be what ends up in my cart!
