You may recall that when I shared our kitchen reveal, I said that our island was slated for a makeover and I am thrilled to say that it is finally complete!
Happy that it is finally complete since we bought the paint for this project summer of 2013!
Here is a shot of what the island looked like in our kitchen before.
Black island, blonde top, just kinda blended in.

Here is a closer shot of the island before.
This is how we bought it but it had some weird spots on it like someone messed with it.

The top had a high gloss poly on it and it was so shiny!
Travis sanded the top down to bare wood on both sides.

While Travis sanded the top, I gave the entire base a sanding.
I then cleaned the whole thing up and stained the top a dark brown color.
And then it came time to paint the base and this took FOREVER!!
I pulled out my paint sprayer and thought it would so fast until my paint sprayer started to get and attitude and messed up my entire finish!!
I had to resand the whole thing and use a brush the paint on to fix it.
It is still not perfect but much better than what it was!

I put a coat of poly on the top and moved it back into the kitchen.
The yellow is so much brighter against our dark floors.
The top matches the floor and is so much better than the blonde top.
We bought some blue knobs with silver accents from World Market to finish it off.
We decided to go with these blue knobs to tie into our teal kitchen table and chairs.
I love how it came out!
So happy that it is finally complete!

October 29, 2014 at 12:58 amI would have never guessed the yellow would look so good – very brave of you! Big bold pop of color, very nice. I would love to see a picture of it in your kitchen like the first one – to see how it fits in the overall scheme of things. You did a fine job, please email me if you post the overall picture. I would love to see it!
