And I redecorated it for FREE! 🙂
Here’s a tutorial on how I made the heart in the center.
I started by cutting out a heart on my Cricut.
I did “fit to page” to get the largest heart possible.
I then traced the heart onto some thin cardboard I had lying around.
I have NO idea where I got this cardboard but I’m glad that I am a pack rat and for some reason knew I should keep it! 🙂 Have another piece left too.
Then, I just cut out the heart.
I painted it a light pink base coat.
I wanted to add some different layers, so in a darker shade of pink, I painted in a smaller heart.
I then painted little X’s to look like stitches in a peachy-orange.
In a dark pink, I painted the word love but I wasn’t too fond of it so I was going to glitter over it but decided to do something different.
I pulled out some little beads I use for scrapbooking that just so happen to be all the colors I was using and just glued them down over the word.
I then wanted to add some ruffles to the edges to make it a little larger and also for added texture. So I took out some streamers that I had in hot pink and just put a bead of hot glue down.
I laid down the streamers on the glue overlapping as I was placing it down to create the ruffles.
I then just glued down the extra streamers to lay flat.
I glued down a band of white yarn on the edges to clean up the edge a little.
Then just glued some ribbon to the back to hang it.
I wasn’t too fond of it at first, didn’t turn out like I pictured in my head, but it has slowly grown on me. I still don’t LOVE it but it will do.
Here’s a closer look at the other shutter decor.
I just cut some paper to fit my frames and cut out X’s and O’s on my cricut and glued them down. Easy, easy!
I then wanted to add a garland. Debated over a few ideas and then decided it would look so cool to make crepe paper rosettes as a garland. So I made my rosettes just like I did for my wreath and then just strung them on clear thread so they look like they are suspended.
Tied them onto my shutters and I LOVE THEM!
You can’t tell, but I also sprayed them with some spray glitter for a little shimmer. It is very subtle but I love it!
There you have it!
How do you like my Valentine shutters?!
