Simple Plate Wall

We have had these silver plates since we lived in KY and I have JUST now got them up on the wall.
Yeah, it has been a while but with moving twice I just now got around to it.
We bought them at one of our favorite thrifty antique stores and I left them as is with the patina instead of polishing them back to the silver. I liked the aged look and well, I know the patina will just come back anyways.
This was a really simple project and I am sure you all can figure it all out but I will still share how I hung my plates.
 I pulled out all my plates and laid them out to see what I had.
I then took out some craft paper and traced around each plate.

 I cut out the shapes so this way I could play around with the placement of my plates on the wall and see them visually without actually putting the plates up and moving them around.
I just taped them up on the wall and changed them a few times until I had a pattern I was happy with.
 Once I decided which pattern I liked, I just used the Command Picture Hanging Strips on the back of them to hang them on the wall.
I placed the large plates on the wall first and I left all the paper templates on the wall until it was time to hang the plate that matched the template. That way I could see spacing between each plate.
I am happy I finally have these bad boys up on the wall.
Next time we move, hopefully it won’t take me so long to hang them!

Linking up to some of these parties.

Guest Post: Andrea from Milestones and Memories

I’ve got another week full of fabulous guests for you all.

Today, Andrea from Milestones and Memories is here visiting.

Spring Vintage Loot

Hi to all you lovely readers of A Glimpse Inside.

I am so thrilled to to be visiting with you today while we swoon over our love for thrifty (i mean, “vintage”) treasures!

Just so you know, this is me:

{…..and my two kids and husband}

I write a blog called Milestones & Memories where I document my love for these kiddos,

organizing and decorating our home,

crafting things like this

and cooking yummy dishes like this

all on a shoestring budget, mind you!

That’s where my love for thrifting comes in and today I’m here to show off my most recent vintage loot.

I recently visited my hometown where there is no shortage of quaint shops, antique stores, and flea markets, (don’t you get the excited tingles just thinking about them?—no, just me?)

Anyhoo,…..here’s what i drove off with that day:

A mallet
for someday trying my hand at “hand-stamped” jewelry and an authentic burlap feed sack

I couldn’t pass up this $5.00–1920’s adding machine/calculator

{we found similar ones on ebay for $100.00 +}

I don’t have the slightest what I will do with it, but it was just too cool to pass up!

{any ideas for me?}

2 shelves, a beautiful turquoise dish, a yardstick, two yellow glass candle holder bowls, a painting in a cool frame, and vintage buttons

I also picked up a 6-paned window, but couldn’t bring it home in our little car—-so no picture.

Can’t wait to make some interesting wall art with that bad boy.

Want to know the best part?…..The total was under $50.00!

I madeover the oval frame into a unique piece of art perfect for a spring mantel redo:
{you could do this with any frame or old/cheap painting}

Materials:
old frame/painting
vintage buttons
acrylic paint
ric rac
hot glue and gun

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Thanks for letting me hang with you today. It’s been a pleasure!

Happy Thrifting, to you too!
–Andi
Come see me sometime! milestones & memories

Thanks so much Andrea!
Love all your finds and cute idea with that frame!
Thanks so much for guest posting for me! 🙂

Guest Post: Aimee from Someone’s Gotta Pay

Hi All!
Aimee is visiting today with a cute little lunchbox made out of an old suit coat.
Take it away Aimee!

guestblogger

I am so excited to be blogging over here at A Glimpse Inside. Hooray! I’m pumped about the opportunity to give you a little glimpse inside my own life & blog. I’m Aimee, a 26-year-old Christian, wife, teacher, and (of course) blogger.

My blog Someone’s Gotta Pay was born last summer after I read the book Everyday Justice by Julie Clawson and was surprised to learn about the ways that many of my everyday choices impacted people around the world. The clothes I wear, the food I eat, the chocolate I snack on, the coffee I buy — all of these have a story. And many of the stories aren’t pretty: sweatshop labor, pollution, modern-day slavery, child labor. Julie Clawson offers several ways that one can make little choices to fight against these issues. And so a whole new world was opened up to me, a world of fair trade, organic, and green options. And I needed a place to write about this new world.

So if you head over to Someone’s Gotta Pay, you might find me blogging about the fair trade chocolate I’m buying, the reusable bags I’m trying to remember to use, the desserts I’m making with “ethical” ingredients, the companies I’m reviewing, or the upcycled crafts I’m making.
That’s what I thought I’d share with you today. One of the ways I try to make little choices to love people around the world is by being environmentally conscious and trying to avoid buying items made in sweatshops. So I’ve become a crafter of reusable materials, such as an old suit coat from the thrift store. The suit coat cost me $2.00, and it has already been made into a few different projects. (I forgot to take a picture of the original coat, but just imagine the material below in the shape of a suit jacket. Yep. That’s what it looked like before.) One such project is this little lunch box.

To be honest, I don’t sew. But I love dreaming up ideas and convincing my wonderful mother to sew them for me. So I dreamt up this lunchbox and cut out the fabric – strategically placing the coat’s original pocket in front. Then I passed the rectangular pieces over to my mom, and she did the real work.

I love how it turned out. (Isn’t my mother talented?) It has plenty of room for all the essential school lunch ingredients, and a pocket to stash an extra snack.

Thanks for letting me share this little project today. Feel free to stop by Someone’s Gotta Pay to see some of my other attempts at making old things new, and I’d love to hear your upcycling ideas too!

Very cute Aimee!
Thanks so much for guest posting for me!
I appreciate it! 🙂
