It’s called Take Your Blogger to Work Day.
So here is more information about me.
1. When you were growing up, what did you hope to become? What was your dream career?
I always wanted to be a teacher, ALWAYS. I’m sure there were a couple other careers that I thought about every now and then like any other kid, but I always came back to a teacher.
2. Through the years in elementary school, high school, college, etc. did your dream career evolve? What influenced you?
Becoming a teacher, never left my train of thought. I was always going to be a teacher. In high school I took LOTS of art classes and I did contemplate becoming an art teacher but decided I would just stick with an elementary school teacher.
I took a course in high school, where I would go to the neighboring elementary school and work with young students and loved it. So, once it came to choosing a path in college there was no other option.
I did contemplate interior designer at some point once I was in college but my school didn’t have a great program so I stuck with teacher.
3. What is your career today? Is it your dream job? How did you get there? What do you hope for your career in the future?
Currently, I work from home, online, for an educational company.
Obviously, I am not teaching but at least I am still working in the educational field.
I ended up working in this job mostly because of being a military spouse. Travis and I graduated college, got married and then this whirl wind life started. I subbed while Travis was deployed but we move so often (about to make move number 5 in 4 yrs.) that I haven’t gotten an actually teaching position. So this position can move with me any where so it works.
My best friend used to work for the same company and I actually went to high school with one of my bosses so I talked to her and luckily she was hiring in a few months.
Perhaps, some day I’ll end up with my own classroom, perhaps I will just sub. We’ll see. We’ve always discussed me being a stay at home mom once we have kids so who knows what I will be doing in the future.
4. What is your day like? What are your typical tasks?
Oh, what is my day like?! I must say, I have an awesome schedule. I can make it any way I want. I typically get up around 10. Yes, I really like my sleep ok?! lol I’ll work out, then sign into work. I normally work 5 to 5 1/2 hr days and working on whatever my assignment is at the time. It varies depending on what is needed to do at the moment. Once, work is complete, I wait for Travis to come home, have dinner, and then try to work on blog stuff, projects, or etsy items. I am a night owl so I head to bed sometime after midnight but before 2 am.
5. What do you love about your job? What are some downfalls?
I love the flexible hours and that it is obviously a job I do from home. It is nice to work when I want to work. Can work as much as I like as long as I get 20 hrs a week. Can take off if I need to take off. It’s a job I can do in my pajamas and that is always nice too, Travis may not think so but I enjoy it! lol
The only thing that I say that can be a downfall, is that since I do work at home, alone, I miss interacting with others. I’m always so happy when Travis comes home so I can finally talk to someone that will actually respond back to me. Oscar and Patton just don’t cut it.
6. Do you hope to stay in this job forever? Where do you see your career self in the future?
No, I don’t see myself staying in this job forever. Like I mentioned before, we’ve always talked about me being a SAHM once we have kids (granted I do stay home now but I wouldn’t work once kids come along), or I’ve thought about subbing again since that is easier to do since we move so much. And MAYBE if we are in once place long enough, I will try to teach. We’ll see.
But Travis and I actually have a dream together.
We want to buy an old historical home and open it up as an event/wedding house.
We want to throw parties, weddings, and special events. We have big ideas of how we want out house to look- must have acreage, a large barn and other out buildings, and open.
Hopefully, we will be able to achieve this dream around the time that Travis will retire from the military. Fingers Crossed! 🙂
7. How does your blog/shop/creativity contribute from your career? Or does it distract?
I don’t think my job contributes anything to my blog, etsy shop, or creativity. There are times, when I don’t want to work and just blog or make something but even though I work from home, I know I SHOULD work and I do.
If I want to get some crafting done, I try to plan ahead and then start working earlier so i finish earlier then get some crafting done.
So that’s what I do!
Nothing very exciting! lol
But I want to thank Gina for throwing such a fun party.
